Knight Wall Systems introduces new "sloped" continuous insulation rain screen system

Deer Park, WA – Knight Wall Systems today announced a brand-new design variation for its line of Dow®-Knight CI-System continuous insulation rain screen façades, which enables the overlap of panel cladding.

Called Sloped-CI™, the new Knight rain screen allows for large panels to be installed lap-style on a building's façade, creating striking texture and shadow effects with an almost three-dimensional effect.

"We were asked to help create an architectural design vision become reality by sloping the cladding on a recent project," Knight Wall Systems president Doug Knight said. "And we decided to make this same design concept available as one of our standard products because it's more versatile than you might expect."

Webinar 2: April 27, 2012
NFPA 285 Fire-Tested Wall Assemblies

The NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency) 285 fire-test requirement for multi-story, non-combustible construction has been a part of the building code for more than 20 years (both pre- and post-merger of the building codes into IBC). For many years, designers rarely looked at this requirement or even knew it existed. Recent developments in ASHRAE, IECC and LEED have increased the interest in high performance building envelope designs with continuous insulation, which are commonly combustible plastic foam. Thus, the awareness of the NFPA 285 portion of the code has risen dramatically with the increased use of thick foam insulation in sustainable, energy efficient designs.

You are invited to learn more about this test requirement at a webinar hosted by the Dow Building Solutions Customer Technical Support Center. The talk, presented by a panel of building scientists, engineers and code advisors including Dan Tempas, Linda Jeng and Brian Lieburn, will cover the relevant IBC, IECC, and LEED requirements, the fire test itself, its history and wall assemblies that meet the code requirements. The panel will also discuss the design community's current questions on meeting both the energy and fire testing requirements when designing high performance, sustainable buildings. This webinar will provide participants with 1.5 continuous education credits with AIA, GBCI and Building Performance Institute.

The April 27 event is one of a series of webinars created by Dow Building Solutions addressing a variety of building science best practices. Builders, architects, code officials, building scientists, rating professionals and other building experts are invited to listen and participate.

Knight Wall Systems introduces thermal-isolating wall bracket for rain screens

Deer Park, WA – Knight Wall Systems today announced it has launched a brand-new, proprietary thermal isolation system, called ThermaStop™, for use with its self-leveling and continuous-insulation rain screens, according to company president Doug Knight.

ThermaStop is positioned between the wall and the wall brackets of a Knight rain screen and significantly reduces thermal bridging at that point of contact by isolating the bracket from the wall, a particular area of the building envelope that can potentially contribute to heat loss and gain.

“Our thermal models indicate that the use of ThermaStop in rain-screen construction delivers an increase of effective R-value on an average of 35-70 percent over conventional aluminum-brackets and continuous furring strips respectively,” Knight said. “And the more insulation that’s used, the better the isolator performs.” (...more)

Dow®-Knight CI-System selected as a BuildingGreen Top-10 Product for 2012

TORONTO, ON, October 6, 2011 – Knight Wall Systems’ CI-Girt Continuous Insulation Rain Screen—now marketed as the Dow®-Knight CI-System—has been selected as one of BuildingGreen’s Top-10 products of the year by the editors of Environmental Building News and GreenSpec®. This tenth annual award recognizes the most innovative and exciting green building products added to the GreenSpec® Directory during the past year or covered in Environmental Building News.

“Our selections of the Top-10 Green Building Products represent a wide range of product types in many different application areas,” noted BuildingGreen founder and GreenSpec executive editor Alex Wilson. This year’s list is particularly diverse, ranging from a decking product made from recycled carpeting, to a window glass with UV-reflective patterning that is highly visible to birds (to minimize collisions), an ingenious toilet that uses a passive vacuum-assist mechanism to achieve excellent performance using just 0.8 gallons, an LED lighting module that offers comparable light quality to that of halogen, and an advanced, cellulose-insulated modular wall system for residential building. “Many of our Top-10 products this year have multiple environmental attributes,” said Wilson. (...more)

Knight Wall Systems Revolutionizes Rain Screen Cladding over Continuous Insulation

Deer Park, WA – Knight Wall Systems Inc. today announced the launch of CI-System™, a new rain screen system that accommodates continuous rigid insulation on the exterior of a building, significantly increasing the structure’s energy efficiency.

“The CI-System system allows for cladding attachment over continuous insulation—a requirement of ASHRAE 90.1,” Knight Wall Systems president Doug Knight said. “CI-System also saves money by reducing labor and materials costs, as it eliminates the need to manually cut and fit the insulation around girts and requires fewer materials to reach the same insulation values.” (...more)
